Experimental V.1 :: Langley, BC :: Self Portrait :: Day 336

self portrait

Day one of “Experimental Portraiture with Jeremy Cowart” was really fun. You can check out day two tomorrow for free, just head over to creativeLIVE to enroll.

This self portrait I took tonight was influenced by what Jeremy went over in class, and even made use of his iPhone light painting trick. It felt real good to try something new and to use a square crop.

It’s almost midnight here, time for bed.

To one month left of this Project 365.

To posting to your blog after 11:00pm.

To Movember (Sadly I didn’t take part in the festivities this year, but here’s proof that I kicked some serious butt last time round, even if I did dye it black!)

To David Bowie.

To having friends that make you smile.

To having your family live close by.

And lastly, to my Dad.

Bottoms up:)

Kids :: Langley, BC :: Self Portrait :: Day 333

After a friend pointed this video out, I can’t get MGMT out of my head, or the fact that such amazing kids (and teacher) exist.

Matcha Green Tea :: Langley, BC :: Still Life :: Day 332

flowered bowl of matcha green tea

I’m usually a coffee drinker, but over the past couple of months I’ve taken a liking to matcha green tea. I had no idea that there were so many different kinds and that it was so difficult to properly use a bamboo whisk! One day, I will get myself over to Japan and experience a tea ceremony.

I posted a new page that lists what photo gear and lighting equipment I’m used for my Project 365. It’s a little rough in format but I thought it was better to post it now and refine it later. You can view it here or click on “About Me” at the top of the page, and choose “Gear Bag”.

Peace & Love :: Langley, BC :: Portrait :: Day 331

In our house we listen to a ton of music, it shapes each of us in one way or another. I have this dream of forming a family band in the new year, something way cooler than the boring old Partridge Family. If it’s anything like Isabelle rocking out with a ukulele, it will be entertaining to say the very least.

Isabelle’s favorite bands as of today are, Arcade Fire (she adores Régine Chassagne), Belle & Sebastian, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. If you are wondering what she is listening to in the photo, it’s a Sufjan Stevens track titled “Too Much”.

Cloverdale United Church :: Cloverdale BC :: Nightscape :: Day 330

I’ve taken a few other photos of Churches throughout this Project 365. There’s this one and another one here.

The Gangs All Here :: Langley, BC :: Portrait :: Day 329

portrait of 3 kids in the snow

I got off work early today so I was able to play with the kids in the snow before dinner. We did a little snow shoveling, some sledding, and built a gigantic snowman. I was also able to take a photo. This one makes me laugh because it could easily be cheesy band shot with Ben as the lead singer.

Stage Names :: Langley, BC :: Portrait :: Day 328

A black and white portrait of Christa, swinging hair and all.

Smile And Wave :: Langley, BC :: Portrait :: Day 327

Whenever Ben has the camera pointed at him he inevitably ends up smiling. This is then followed up by some crazy hand gestures, one of them usually a wave, and then he runs off.

Golden Ears :: Maple Ridge, BC :: Fine Art :: Day 326

I took this photo from the Fort Langley area, in the late morning. Ben was with me and while he tromped around in the minus 7 degree weather, I quickly set up a tripod and fired off a few frames.

Umbrella :: Langley, BC :: Fine Art :: Day 325

So different than yesterdays photos.

Brr… It’s Cold :: Langley, BC :: Portrait :: Day 324

We got our first snow fall last night so all the kids were out playing early this morning, and even though it was freezing cold, no one seemed to mind.

(It’s funny that as I’m trying to post this to my blog, I can hear Owen in the background yelling, “I hope they make it snow tonight!”)

Necklace :: Langley, BC :: Portrait :: Day 323

Isabelle putting on a necklace all by herself. It’s a big deal:)

Rain :: Delta, BC :: Fine Art :: Day 322

I got drenched taking these two photos, even with a large umbrella above my head. Brr, it’s getting cold outside, I imagine I’ll be taking photos in the snow:(quite soon.
