2010 Egg Drop :: Portrait :: Day 59

We spent the night working on our egg drop container, one that will hopefully prevent an egg from breaking when dropped from the roof of a school gymnasium. The container needed to be made from household items, parachutes were discouraged. We used Popsicle sticks, elastics, sponges and about 10 pounds of glue. Strobist: Nikon SB-800...

Newton Athletic Park, Surrey :: Self Portrait :: Day 58

I tried balancing flash and ambient light as best I could. I need more practice. Strobist: Nikon SB-800 with 28 inch Westcott softbox camera right, triggered by Cybercync.

Pedestrian Walkway, Golden Ears Bridge :: Architectural :: Day 57

My plan was to take some photos off the Golden Ears Bridge, looking out towards Vancouver but I got rained out. Instead I took cover beneath the pedestrian walkway leading up to the bridge and tried my best make it work… finding a frame here and there.

Langley Church, Fraser Highway :: Architectural :: Day 56

This Project 365 has been good for me. It has forced me to take photos of subjects other than people, stuff that I would have never even bothered to look at before. For this photo it was difficult to decide what to keep in the frame and what to omit, there were lines running everywhere....

Learning To Roller Skate, In The Dark :: Portrait :: Day 55

Roller skates, something about their retro clunkiness and four wheel coolness makes me smile. Isabelle loves her skates and practices diligently, even in the dark. She spends more time on her butt than on her feet… but that’s ok. Strobist: Nikon SB-800 with 28 inch Westcott softbox camera right, triggered by Cybercync.

The 2010 Olympics, Your Biggest Fan :: Portrait :: Day 54

The Olympic vibe here in Canada is contagious. My niece is here sporting her hockey colors. Go, Canada, Go! Strobist: Alien Bees 800 with 28 inch Westcott camera right, bookend for fill, triggered by Cybercync.

I Have Ants In My Pants :: Portrait :: Day 53

My first attempt at using a hair light. Maybe I should have chosen a subject that didn’t have ants in his pants. With Ben, you have a few milliseconds to pull off the shot, nothing more. Strobist: Alien Bees 800 with 50 inch Westcott softbox camera left, Alien Bees 800 with 20 degree grid camera...

Pigtails :: Portrait :: Day 52

There is magic in late evening light and a backlit subject, especially when it’s your daughter. I’m trying to pay more and more attention to quality and direction of light. Thanks for looking!

Side Of The Road :: Portrait :: Day 49

This shot was taken on the side of a busy road, pretty much in the ditch. We had 10 minutes of fading light to play with and this is what we pulled off. Strobist: Nikon SB-800 with 60 inch umbrella camera right, triggered by Cybercync.

Blue And Yellow :: Nightscape :: Day 48

Splitting the frame again, this time with color. I do it so often that it’s become sort of a habit. The blue sky and yellowish light from the street lights make an interesting pair.

I Know Ka-Ra-Tay :: Self Portrait :: Day 47

It was late, so naturally I decided to practice my karate moves behind a local furniture store. There is something invigorating about jumping and kicking beside a dumpster in the middle of the night. People driving by thought I was nuts. Can you blame them? Strobist: Nikon SB-800 with 60 inch umbrella above camera, triggered...

Campbell Valley Park, A Walk With Ben :: Fine Art :: Day 46

Ben and I wandered around Campbell Valley Park down in south Langley. The plan was to go see the ducks but poor little Ben couldn’t keep his eyes open and slept the entire time.

Spring Flowers & Hockey In Roller Skates :: Portrait :: Day 45

It’s so mild out that flowers are blooming in winter. How bizarre? Isabelle managed to find these in the neighbor’s yard. The 2nd shot makes me laugh, I couldn’t resist taking it. Isabelle has big dreams of playing with the neighborhood hockey rats, in her roller skates of course.
